About the Unit

Based on the vision of Ain Shams University to enhance the educational process in all its aspects, establishing the Central Unit for Curriculum Development and Learning Methods Unit within the Education Strategies and Research Center has been approved. This initiative recognizes the crucial role of curricula, academic programs, and teaching and learning methods in preparing Ain Shams University graduates. It aims to equip them with the skills necessary to work, innovate, and adapt to the scientific and technological developments impacting the local and regional labor market. Academic programs and curricula are essential components of the educational process, necessitating continuous development in alignment with international and academic standards. This will ensure that graduates meet global qualifications and can compete internationally. Consequently, careful planning and development of study programs in higher education institutions are essential for achieving global competitiveness.

Central Unit for Curriculum Development and Learning Methods has a fundamental role in refining existing curricula and programs within colleges to meet contemporary needs. Additionally, it will design new programs that contribute to enhancing Ain Shams University’s regional and international ranking. It aims to implement direct and electronic teaching methods that foster an advanced learning environment, encouraging creativity and innovation. Central Unit for Curriculum Development and Learning Methods is one of the core components of the Education Strategy Administration at Ain Shams University.

Unit objectives

According to the vision and mission of the unit, the Unit objectives are outlined as follows:

1. To enhance the educational process at Ain Shams University (ASU) through the improvement of curricula and teaching methods.

2. To participate in the planning and design of the bylaws for certain colleges at the university, specifically those that are developing their internal regulations and programs.

3. To examine global trends and programs in the development of curricula and teaching methods to effectively implement them within ASU faculties while adhering to the university's vision and mission.

4. To establish and apply pilot standards for curriculum development and teaching methods at ASU.

5. To identify the training needs of teaching staff to keep pace with new developments in curricula and teaching methods.

6. To create a training plan for teaching staff to enhance their teaching and professional skills in alignment with the university's strategic goals.

7. To establish an advisory committee consisting of faculty members to discuss the current status and advancements in curricula and teaching methods.

8. To work in collaboration and coordination with other units within the Education Strategies and Research Center to ensure the overall advancement of the educational process.

OUR Activities

The strategic plan for the Central Unit for Curriculum Development and Learning Methods was developed in 2020 in alignment with the Education Strategies and Research Center's strategic plan at Ain Shams University. This plan aims to enhance the curriculum system and teaching methods in accordance with global trends and the future competencies expected of graduates from the university. The unit is responsible for a variety of activities, including:

- Collaborating with coordinators of the Bachelor of Environmental Science program in planning the program.

- Planning a professional development program for faculty members and supporting staff in the Faculty of Archaeology, focused on “competence-based learning.”

- Identifying the training needs of faculty members and supporting staff in the areas of curriculum design and teaching methods.

- Establishing curriculum committees within the university faculties and providing them with ongoing support.

- Analyzing contemporary global trends in university education and develop a list of guiding standards for curriculum development and teaching methods.

- Coordinating efforts among similar departments across the faculties at Ain Shams University.

- Developing courses that meet university requirements.
